ARE YOU ONE OF THE 2 OUT OF 10?
The odds are that you – like most people – are not playing to your strengths at work most of the time. Recent polls reveal that less than two out of ten people – the actual figure is 17% – say they spend the majority of their day "playing to their strengths". Even if you devote 25% of each day to all those things you don't like to do, or that bore you, or frustrate you – your non-negotiables – this still leave 75% of your time at work to fill with activities that call upon your strengths. And yet so few of us do. Our mission at The Marcus Buckingham Company is to dramatically increase this statistic, to "move the needle." Our profound hope is that this short-film series, Trombone Player Wanted, will accelerate this mission. Watch the Trailer
ARE YOU READY FOR SOMETHING NEW?
Trombone Player Wanted consists of six films, each between 10-15 minutes long. We shot each of them on 35 millimeter film on location at the famed Frank Gehry designed Walt Disney Concert Hall in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, and at Hollywood High School. We made each film short because anything longer and we'd fail to grab your attention. We made them visually arresting because we want to keep your attention once we have it. We invite you to steal 15 minutes away from email and your cell phone and discover this stirring new medium.
WHAT’S POWERFUL ABOUT TROMBONEPLAYERWANTED?
Trombone Player Wanted deals with you and your work, but, as you'll see, it does so in an unexpected way. We chose not to depict actors role-playing "employees", or recreating typical work situations. Instead, the films tell the story of a ten year old boy who, although a competent trombonist, feels his strengths tugging him in a different direction. Back when you were young, your strengths were to be trusted. You might not have had a name for them, you might not even have labeled them "strengths", but when you were a child you listened to them. You knew which activities drew you back to them time and again. You knew which situations thrilled you and you sought them out. You felt your yearnings and your passions intensely, and they fueled your innocent belief that the world was going to wait for you, until one day you would emerge from your home or your school and you would get to make your unique mark on the world. How old were you when you still felt this? Eight? Ten? Trombone Player Wanted takes you back to this time, and, while not denying the realities of the working world, challenges you to reclaim it.
HOW DOES THIS FILM SERIES WORK FOR YOU?
If it is to offer you practical help in putting your strengths to work, the experience of Trombone Player Wanted has to consist of more than just plugging in your DVD and watching a film. So, after each short-film, we encourage you to go to SimplyStrengths.com where we've designed for you an experience that is more personal and reflective. When you purchase Trombone Player Wanted, you are given a unique code that provides you access to this experience. Please use it.
SO WHAT’S THE NEXT STEP?
We wrote Trombone Player Wanted for you. You may well want to show it to your team right away but please don't. As the airlines are fond of saying "Put your own oxygen mask on first." Yes, your team will benefit from finding their strengths and putting them to work, but you will only be a hindrance if you don't know how to do this with your strengths in your life. So watch each of the six chapters (each chapter is a short film that builds on the previous film) on your own before you share it. Remember: first understand your strengths and learn how to leverage them. Then teach others. To this end Trombone Player Wanted is priced so that each person can own their own set of films. This is why we are offering the entire set of six short films at only $99.99 a set, while other training films are priced between $850 – $1,250 each. It is the best way we could think of to encourage each person to take his strengths seriously, and, degree by degree, day by day, move the needle.
